Who is Punam Das in Madhubani Mithila painting and what was her contribution to the field of Mithila painting.

Mithila painting of Punam Das is a unique image in Madhubani region. Punam Das comes from a middle class Kayastha family. She has been fond of painting since childhood i.e. at the age of 7 years. She lived among her family and looked after the household chores.  She used to make paintings and also taught others. Punam Das ji learned the art of this painting from her mother and taught it to her younger sister Neelam Karna.

And Poonam ji also taught this Madhubani painting art to school boys and girls. After about 30 to 40 years, she achieved success in this field. This success was achieved after 30 years and after hard work in the last year 2014.  He was honored with the National Award.

Poonam Das ji's house is in Vijay Salempur inside Pandaul block of Madhubani district of Bihar state. Das ji has achieved many achievements in the field of painting and he keeps getting invitation letters to set up his stall in many cities with painting. Poonam Das ji  Das ji is the only one who does painting in her house.
Poonam ji says that as long as I have eyes, I will not only give up this art but will also teach this art to others. Everyone does this painting art in Mithila region but especially in Madhubani in Mithila, almost everyone earns a living from this art.  And due to this art, Madhubani has received many Padmashree, National Awards and State Awards in this field.
